Andalucia
Southern Spain

By T

Granada

The Alhambra

TheAlhambra is the most romantic monuments in Europe.
It was the palace-fortress of the Nasrid Sultans, rulers of the last Spanish Moorish kingdom .
But the building shows the spirit of Moorish life and culture even now..

T took these pictures at the same place but the different times.
The backward mountains of the pictures are the Sierra Nevada.

Parador de Granada

Parador San Fransisco

Paradors in Spain are the National hotels.
They are built in the historical places.
This photograph is the courtyard of Parador of Granada.
It is a small  four star hotel in a fifteenth century convent which is part of the famous Palace of Alhambra
T says when she saw the movie "1492", she found the scene which Columbus met Queen Izabela was just at the Alhambra.

Washington Irving
by T

House in Granada

Marriage ceremony

The marriage ceremony in Granada.
We saw a lot of marriage ceremonies during this travel.
This photograph was taken an area where is famous for Gypsy called Sacromonte of Granada.
These people were waiting for the newlywed couple who came out from a church ,
and were blessing in the song of the flamenco style.
The atmosphere of Spain was overflowing a lot.

Cows with the big bells

When we were driving near Granada, we heard the bell sound.
We stopped the car and looked around.
We found some cows with the very big bells.
Bells were such an old style and it was like the scenery of a fairy tale.
We also looked at the group of goats with the same type bells.

By T

Trevelez

Trevelez is the highest small towns in the area, at about 2500 metres and famous for its Spanish hams.
Spanish hams are very good as well as the Italian hams.
There are a lot of ham shops and ham factories in this town.

Sunflower fields

Andalucia is famous for its sunflower field.

Cordoba

La "Mezquita"

Cordoba is the beautiful city. It is place of crossing the cultures.
This impressive building is La Mezquita, the Arabian mosque.
The style here combines Roman, Gothic, Byzantine, Syrian and Persian elements
It is very fascinating!

The Cathedral

The Christians reconquered Cordoba in 1236.
They built the Christian cathedral inside of the original mosque.

Sevilla

Seville is the very lovely place to visit.
Andalusia was occupied by Moors for about 800 years.
So we can feel the Moorish influence by visiting the historical places.

The climate here is very mild in winter.
(about 3000 hours of sun per year)
In summer the temperatures can arrive to some 47°C.

Sevilla is the heart of Andalusian cultuer.
And we can enjoy the bullfighting and Flamenco music here.

The Cathedral

Seville's cathedral is the third-largest in the world.
It is original Roman foundation base Goths built.
Later the Moorish mosque was built here .

After the reconquest of the town by the Christians in 11th century was started the construction of today's cathedral. It had lasted 5 centuries.
Most of it is in late gothic styles, though we find important Renaissance elements as well.

Bullfighting

Bullfighting is the national sport of Spain.
There are about 70 bullrings in Andalucia. Seville is the most important..
The Spanish passion for bullfight is very old.
In the rupestrian paintings the bull had a very important presence,
but it wasn't until the end of the seventieth century
that bullfighting was understood as we do nowadays.
The bullfight is divided into three "tercios".
Before the first one begins,
the bullfighters have to parade around the arena in a very emotive walk called the "paseillo"

  By T

There are a lot of tiles in this city.
The right one is the guidance board of the bullring.
The left one is the rest room for men.

Pueblos Blancos

The whitewashed villages of Andalucia are impressive.
People still live according to the old traditions, inherited from their Iberian, Roman and Moorish forefathers.

By T

Gibraltar

Gibraltar is Famous Worldwide for its Dramatic Rock.
It is located at the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula.
Gibraltar is small are and a British self-governing colony.
It is inhabited by around 30,000 people made up of Gibraltarians, British, Moroccans, Indians and Spanish.

By T

El Tajo

Ronda is one of Andalucia's loveliest towns.
It stands on a plateau in the mountains of Malaga Province.
It is famous for the gorge.
This gorge is known as "El Tajo"
There is a stone bridge, which once housed a prison.
Visitors love to see the waters of the River Guadalevin.
